German Village Garden Tour

Stay an extra night and return home with a special Post-Conference Experience of Columbus – while raising funds for DignityUSA!Columbus, Ohio’s Historic German Village, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, is the country's largest privately financed residential restoration (233 acres). It was recognized as a Preserve America Neighborhood by the Presidential Council on Historic Preservation, in 2007, the first in Ohio to achieve this honor. Sixty (60) years after a small group of citizens banded together to bring the community, on the edge of downtown, back from decline German Village is one of the area’s most desirable and vibrant communities. It is known for its charming brick streets and sidewalks, gas lanterns, dining patios, thriving shops and restaurants, beautifully tended gardens and restored homes. It is also a prominent “gayborhood”.Our Ohio Host Chapters are leveraging this impressive urban asset to raise funds to support the work of DignityUSA. We have assembled an afternoon and evening collection of experiences including a behind-the-scenes guided tour of three private homes and gardens and two historic parks, narrated by the citizens who lovingly restored, created and tend them and concluding with dinner in one of the Capital City’s renowned restaurants, Barcelona, named “The most romantic patio dining spot” by Columbus Monthly magazine.Logistics:Sunday, July 6. 2 pm - 8 pm, including time for dinner. Transportation via ride-sharing will leave the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dublin at 2:30 pm and return to Dublin by 9:30 pm. (Those who wish have the after-dinner option of following a local host to a downtown sky bar overlooking the city skyline at sunset for a night-cap, returning at the time you desire via Uber or Lyft.)Fee: $125 per person plus dinner. This includes transportation to and from the conference hotel to the Village, local tour guides, admission to local residences, architecture and horticultural experts. You will request the food and beverage at Barcelona as you desire, at your cost, estimated to average $75 per person, not including tax or tip.
This is a walking tour of approximately 2.5 miles in an historic district with uneven surfaces, in July heat, with periodic rest pauses and limited access to restrooms. Dress and assess your mobility accordingly.
Space is limited to 16 participants.
